In Canada we do need an ultra light licence. No need if you do have already a Private Pilot licence.

FAR part 103 states that if the Ultralight weighs less than 254 lbs (314 lbs if it has floats or a bsr parachute) no license is required to fly it or maintain it. There are other requirements as to max speed, stall speed etc. Of course noone should attempt to fly any aircraft without proper training. Hope this helps. Chuck C Decatur Tennessee

You are going to have to check your local regulations however as far as I know you do not need a pilot's license to fly an ultralight airplane.
