American Airline

American Airline (correctly known as American Airlines or AA) has it's offices at Fort Worth in Texas, next to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

It commenced operations as American Airways back in 1930 and currently operates from four Hubs (transfer airports) and three Focus Cities (a less busy transfer airport). In 1934 the airline was purchased by E L Chord who renamed it American Air Lines.

AA has an aircraft fleet size of 650+ airplanes and flies to approx 160 destinations worldwide.

AA has scheduled flights to Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Western Europe, Japan, China and India.

American Airlines Service Levels

AA operates three levels of service on their long haul International Flagship Service flights; i.e First Class, Business Class and Main Cabin or Economy Class. All of these are flown on a Boeing 777 and include flat beds for First Class and lie flat seats for Business Class.

Medium haul flights have two classes of service being Business Class and Main Cabin. Boeing 737, 757, 767-300 and Airbus A300 aircraft owned by American contain lie flat Business Class seats.

Domestic flights also provide two classes of service - First Class and Main Cabin. First Class passengers are offered complimentary meals on most flights.


The airplanes operating as at March 2008 are:-

  • Airbus A300 flies domestically and to Latin America from JFK New York, MIA Miami and SJU San Juan - Puerto Rico. Some of these are to be retired in 2008.
  • Boeing 737 flies domestically to North America from MIA Miami and DFW Dallas - Fort Worth.
  • Boeing 757 flies from DFW Dallas to Fort Worth, SJU San Juan, LAX Los Angeles, ORD Chicago, STL St Louis and MIA Miami.
  • Boeing 767 flies from JFK-Bermuda to Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and internationally.
  • Boeing 777 flies to Bueonos Aires, London, Frankfurt, Paris, Delhi, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Chicago - Dallas, Dallas - Miami, Miami - Boston, Miami - Los Angeles, Chicago - Miami.
  • McDonnell Douglas MD80 Jets flies from ORD Chicago, DFW Dallas and STL St Louis. These aircraft are the least fuel efficient aircraft currently owned by American. From 2008 they will be replaced by Boeing 737-800s.

American Airline is the only airline in America to provide scheduled flights to Anguilla, Bolivia, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Vincent, the Grenadines and Uruguay.
