The Airbus A310 was the second aircraft made by Airbus.
It was derived from the A300 (the first of many of the Airbus fleet) and differs by having:-
a shortened body/fuselage with a seating capacity of approx 200 - 250 seats.
a redesigned wing; and
smaller vertical fins
The A310 was first launched in July 1978 with orders being placed by Lufthansa (Germany) and Swissair - now known as Swiss International Air Lines. July 2007 saw final production of this aircraft with a total of 255 aircraft delivered.
This aircraft is the first of a twin-engined wide body aircraft and is therefore capable of long haul flights ranging from 6800 - 7300 kms.
Together with the A300, the A310 paved the way for Airbus to compete with Boeing in the airline industry.
There have been many further developments of aircraft by Airbus such as the A320, A330, A340and more recently the A380 aircraft.
All of these aircraft can be seen by clicking on their respective links.
